The John Lynch Foundation and Sports Authority Team Up to Announce the Coach of the Month Award

Denver—The John Lynch Foundation and Sports Authority are teaming up to recognize coaches from across Colorado that make an impact in the lives of youth.  Both organizations are committed to developing young leaders and recognizing the good in sport. 

The John Lynch Foundation will host a Star of the Month award ceremony on Tuesday, November 8, 2011 at 5:00 p.m. at the Denver Broncos Training Facility in Dove Valley.  Awards will be presented to eight student-athletes who excel in academics, athletics and community involvement.  New this year, through a partnership with Colorado-based Sports Authority, the Foundation will also present monthly awards to Denver area Coaches at the ceremony.

“We are thrilled to be partnering with Sports Authority on the Coach of the Month award,” said John Lynch, NFL on Fox Sports Analyst and former Denver Bronco.  “Coaches play such a huge role in the lives of many kids and there are so many of them who are making a lasting positive impact on the youth they work with.  For years our Foundation has recognized tremendous student-athletes who are top achievers in their classrooms, in their chosen sports, and in their communities, and now we are shining the light on the coaches who help them achieve greatness.” 

“There is natural fit between the values of the John Lynch Foundation and Sports Authority”, said Gwen Manto, EVP and Chief Merchant for Sports Authority.  “Coaches who use sport to help impart life lessons and have a developmental orientation with young athletes should be celebrated.  Sports build communities and great coaches can have an incredible impact on lives of others – we want to be part of recognizing those that make a difference”.

Each month (October-April) athletes and their parents can nominate coaches based on their coaching accomplishments, their citizenship in the community, and their approach to inspiring and motivating young athletes.  Nominations will be submitted through the John Lynch Foundation’s website (johnlynchfoundation.org) and will be reviewed by a volunteer selection committee comprised of youth advocates, members of the media, former coaches and athletes.

The monthly winners will be invited to attend a John Lynch Star of the Month awards ceremony held at the Denver Broncos Training Facility in Dove Valley where they will personally meet John and Linda Lynch, receive a behind the scenes tour and be presented with an award.    All monthly winners will also receive a $100 Sports Authority gift card, autographed John Lynch football and will go into the running for the Coach of the Year Award that will be presented at the John Lynch Salute the Stars luncheon which will be held at the end of the school year in May at Sports Authority Field at Mile High..
